Practical tips For a successful itinerary

The V®86 is accessible to both amateur and experienced cyclists . However, due to the variable terrain, some of our sections can be a little tricky. Beginners will appreciate the use of an electric-assist bike. Given the shared lanes, this route is more suited to families with teenagers than with young children.

The route takes you along quiet roads, but on shared lanes! To make the most of your tour, keep an eye out for summer traffic. And to shine like a star on your bike, don’t forget to opt for clothing and accessories that make you irresistibly visible. Pedal with style and safety!

  • Which way to go on the V®86?

Option 1: Most cyclists opt for the west-east route against the current of the Lot (Aiguillon>La Canourgue). A more frequent positive difference in altitude, but a relief that starts off gently, allowing you to warm up slowly as the route progresses. A succession of heritage treasures between Lot and Aveyron, villages often located on the Camino de Compostela, and grandiose panoramas that only increase as far as Lozère.

Option 2: The east-west route (La Canourgue>Aiguillon) starts with the most difficult. Once in Aiguillon, why not link up with the Canal des Deux Mers and head up towards the Atlantic or down towards the Mediterranean?

Factors to take into account in your choice: your region of origin for ease of access, your physical condition, what you want to see.

  • Where's the nearest station?

Conques, Rodez (bus to the Lot Valley) and Capdenac-Gare

  • Where can I rent a bike?

Bike rentals are available in Espalion and Entraygues-sur-Truyère.
