Top panoramas Be amazed!

Along the verdant Lot Valley, on the steppic Causse Comtal or on the edge of the Truyère Gorges, our region offers an infinite variety of landscapes. From sunrise to sunset, take to the heights to enjoy panoramas as surprising as they are breathtaking.

#1 The Lot Valley from Château de Roquelaure

It was here, millions of years ago, that the lava flow that formed the clapas below actually flowed. Near the château, a neck formed by an ancient lava column bears witness to this. Approach it to discover its former Romanesque chapel. Behind it, a platform allows you to look out over the valley and the Aubrac mountains.

#2 The Roquelaure lava flow

Located in the hamlet of Thubiès, the clapas – Occitan for “heap of pebbles” – stretches across the slopes of the Roquelaure hill, which gives it its second name. This lava flow, which is not a lava flow, takes the form of an impressive scree of basaltic rock covering several hectares. As an added bonus, it offers magnificent views over Saint-Côme-d’Olt and the Lot Valley.

#3 Estaing and the Lot Gorges From Las Combres

On the hairpin bends above Estaing to Le Nayrac and the Plateau de l’Aubrac, the first bend offers a spectacular view of the medieval village nestled in the heart of the valley and the Gorges du Lot winding between it and the village of Entraygues-sur-Truyère.

#4 The Lot Valley From Notre-Dame-des-Hauteurs

At the top of the hill overlooking the village on the Route to Santiago de Compostela is a sanctuary housing Notre-Dame-des-Hauteurs. From here, you can look out over the slopes of the Lot Valley, topped by the sometimes snow-capped Monts d’Aubrac. Weather permitting, you may even catch a glimpse of the Monts du Cantal.

#5 Panorama of the Confluence in Entraygues-sur-Truyère

Situated in a wood at the foot of a calvary, this panoramic viewpoint overlooks the village ofEntraygues-sur-Truyère and its medieval buildings. Here you can admire the meeting point of the Lot and Truyère rivers, whose waters merge at the confluence.

#6 The Rouens lookout in Saint-Hippolyte

Perched 700 metres above sea level, the Belvédère de Rouens offers a breathtaking view of the Truyère Gorges. Below, the picturesque village of Valon is topped by its castle hanging from a ridge. At its back, on the opposite slope, flows the Cascade du Saut du Chien. On a clear day, you can make out the undulating silhouette of the Puy mountain range.

Viewpoints that deserve it!

#7 Fonbillou The ultimate panorama of the Goges du Lot

Perched on the heights of Nayrac, the Fombillou viewpoint offers a breathtaking view of the Lot Gorges in all seasons. From this natural vantage point, the river meanders between cliffs and forest in a majestic landscape. From July to the end of October, the open slopes are covered with heather, while ferns and chestnut trees change from the bright greens of spring to the orange tones of autumn.

#8 The Virgin of Vermus In Espalion

A good 200-metre climb and a little courage will take you to the foot of the Madonna to admire its splendid viewpoint. Standing 2.60 meters high, the statue sculpted by Louis Castanié and erected on a volcanic cone imposes her benevolent presence on the valley.

“It is said that in order to satisfy the villagers of Saint-Côme-d’Olt and Espalion, who were fighting over her gaze, she was finally directed towards Aubrac.

#9 The Calvary of Gabriac

From Bozouls on the way to Roquelaure or Gages-Montrozier, the Calvaire de Gabriac sits enthroned on its mound, offering a 360° panoramic view of the Causse Comtal. Access is via private pastures on a path dotted with oratories, or you can enjoy the view from one of our trail circuits.
