From the bowels of the earth to human history
The formation of this limestone plateau goes back thousands of years, and its landscape was formed long before man existed. Placed on the same scale, dolmens and prehistoric sites will teach you that man has lived here for a very long time. In the Middle Ages, the monks of Aubrac made it their granary, storing grain in its fortified farms. You’ll also come across cazelles, small stone shelters that served as refuge for generations of shepherds, and admire the impressive homes of the Counts of Rodez. They made this causse their fiefdom and gave it its name.
