Journey to the heart of our dams The incredible industrial epic

Thanks to feats of engineering in places once considered inaccessible, man has tamed the elements to produce clean energy. From the Lot to the Truyère, these hydroelectric facilities are concentrated in numbers and in a few kilometers, a unique fact in France. Discover the history of these structures, witnesses to an extraordinary human epic and a unique alliance between wild nature and modern technology.

Visit our dams From the Lot Valley to the Truyère Gorges

Why not follow in the footsteps of our silver-crested giants?

Built in a variety of structures to adapt to their environment, our dams and power plants help produce the country’s leading source of renewable energy. They form an identity link between our territories and invite you to discover the secrets of hydroelectric production through an exceptional industrial heritage.

Cambeyrac hydroelectric power station Where 2 rivers meet

Located on the Truyère, upstream of the village of Entraygues and its Gothic bridge, the Cambeyrac hydroelectric scheme is the last structure built on the river before it flows into the Lot. It consists of a dam and a power station located in its extension. Its role is to generate hydroelectricity and smooth the river’s flow downstream of the dam.

Couesques dam hydroelectric plant At the heart of the control room

Immerse yourself in the world of hydroelectric production at the heart of the Couesques Dam plant. Throughout your visit, your guide will lead you through the interactive educational tour of theEspace EDF Truyère. Installed above theformer control room of this power plant built in 1950, the glassed-in area offers a bird’s-eye view of the two impressive structures representing the turbine and alternatorgroups.

  • What can you expect on your guided tour?

The tour will give you an insight into how the hydroelectric plant works, and its crucial role in today’s energy transition. You’ll learn all about the history of its construction, as well as the characteristics of this “thin-arch, spillway-crested” dam that distinguish it from its neighbors. From water conveyance to energy redistribution, hydroelectricity will hold no secrets for you!

Castelnau-Lassouts dam And its underside

Built from 1941 onwards, it is the furthest upstream on the Lot among the network of hydroelectric dams in the Lot-Truyère basin. It has created a reservoir that has become a paradise for anglers and carp fishermen alike.

It is here, on the terrace of the former house of the barragiste*– the dam’s janitor – that a permanent exhibition on the epic story of the “white coal” was inaugurated in 2020.
